The Dutchess and the Duke at Mojo's, 12/9
It's going to be a royal affair tonight at Mojo's when The Dutchess and the Duke take the stage with opening acts Greg Ashley (of Gris Gris) and Cabin Sessions.
The Dutchess and the Duke are Jesse Lortz and Kimberly Morrison, two former garage rockers who've cultivated a bare-bones Dylanesque sound. They earned an instant fan base in 2008 with the release of their debut album She's the Dutchess, He's the Duke, which they followed up this year with Sunset/Sunrise—a slightly more optimistic affair, reflecting the changed perspective of new-father-to-be Lortz. Fellow singer/guitarist Morrison is a little more noticeable on the sophomore album, and her vocals even push Lortz to the background from time to time. Loyal subjects of mid-1960s pop will be pleased with this earthy pairing of folk and punk.
